Tropical Storm Gustav is making its way up to the Gulf of Mexico and this makes the second holiday that a tropical storm has messed with my plans. I hope it doesn't hit Houston but even if it doesn't, my job relies on response to emergency situations so we are preparing for possible outcomes which messes with my home life schedule. The sky opened up not too long ago and the rain is falling. Here's to hoping we don't get heavier rain in the near future.

Christmas in August?
While in Kemah, we saw a group of summer Santas. I should have thought to ask them why they were dressed up like that but who cares? After all, it's a bunch of Santas in the August Texas heat. Somehow, sweating buckets while seeing Santa doesn't seem to go together but I enjoyed it all the same. Those beards must have made their faces quite toasty.

Peyton's visit and rain, rain, rain.

This last week, Stephanie's niece Peyton came to pay us a visit. Her dad, Dane, had neck surgery on Monday so we volunteered to show Peyton a bit of Houston for the week and let Dane recover. She had a great time. On the last day, we visited Kemah to enjoy some of the sunshine that had eluded us for most of the week due to heavy rain. We had a blast. Kemah is definitely one of our favorite spots and I think it's Peyton's now as well. Peyton and Stephanie tried out a ride named Chaos before we succumbed to the heat and headed indoors for lunch. Then it was on to the tower ride where we took some extraordinary shots of Kemah and the bay.

Cable Companies
The main reason I haven't been able to update my blog is that we have been moving. We found a nice house which sits above a garage with a deck built around a tree. It is an adult version of a tree house! Anyway, with the move, I have had no regular access to internet services. We decided to call Comcast and set up service with them at the new house. They said they would come to the house yesterday from 5 PM to 8PM. I love the three hour time window but that's another blog. Do you know where this story is headed? You guessed it....didn't even show up. No courtesy call, nothing. So Stephanie decides to give them a call and see what happened. The "customer service" representative (using that term very, very loosely) had no idea why they didn't show up and the earliest time she could reschedule was for next Wednesday! I really don't like dealing with the incompetence of cable companies. A simple "hey we were swamped, sorry" call would have turned my feelings around but to do that requires them to remove their heads....from you know where. So, when I get reliable internet service at the house (keep your fingers crossed) then I'll share many more blogs.
